today at work

i felt like drawing something wintery/Christmasy for a friend's birthday. she's a girl. this picture would be perfect for her, so i'll have to wait until the dinner gets rescheduled. anyway, here's Dasiy Duck for all you Daisy Duck fans. sorry if the picture isn't super clear (i'm more in the habit of taking pictures with my phone really fast instead of scanning this stuff in). plus it would take a while probably cuz i'd have to scan it in pieces at a time. it's about 13 inches high by about 16 inches wide.

more drawrings

while pulling massive overtime last week, i spent some time drawing these little holiday sketches of different Disney characters. here's one i did of Jack Skellington building a snowman. there's somethin about drawing Christmas type stuff to serve as instant relaxation. and, of course, i listened to my Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack while sketchin this bad-boy out!

Chandler

so at Thanksgiving, my sister's new dog having a great time with all the people and the smell of turkey. she asked me to draw a caricature of him, and this is what came out. he looks so funny in his Mr. Belvedere sweater.

rainy Mickey

this is how i felt yesterday. i'm pretty disappointed because it's was supposed to be all "super rainy" starting some time this weekend. i personally haven't felt a drop. so, to make myself feel better, i drew this Mickey Mouse splashing in some puddles!

tyrannical hippo

hey gang! here's a drawing of a hippo that looks like he means business. the cool thing is, he was fun to sketch. the lame thing is, i really wish i had some ice cream right now.

stuff to blog about

so let's start with this video. this was one of my favorite songs for a LONG time, which came out here in the States back in 2006 -- "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley. it's funny that as much as i love this song, i never saw the video for it until the other day. the motion graphics are phenominal! be sure to let it download all the way first. the best way to kill it is to watch it all choppy. (thanks Alaia!)

here's another logo i did for a personal shopper. if you need one for your holiday, birthday, wedding, or life shopping, don't hesitate to check out Jen Fyffe. "SHE'LL take care of it so YOU don't have to!" (insert *wink and the gun* here)

here's a fantastic piece by Eric Bains! if you like hip-hop culture, be sure to check out his stuff (link provided to the right).

here's an awesome piece by Jay who, quite frankly, knows what the heck he's talking about. this is from an older post on his blog, which i wish i would have seen earlier. nonetheless, this drawing is WAY better than i can do. cars are quite hard for me to draw! perhaps this drawing was to spite me... or perhaps because he knows that if it's Batman, i'm all about it! (next Halloween, guys! i promise!)

a special "thank you!" goes out to Alex Deligiannis for not only keeping my childhood memories alive with this immaculate design of Rocksteady, but also doing it justice! definitely check out his blog and website to see what other awesome work he's done (besides at Nickelodeon working on the Fairly Odd Parents). Alex, i might have to come bugg you for another drawing! your Ninja Turtle work is gorgeous!

this is just because i think it's hilarious.

and, yes, you guessed it! a quick sketch of that one guy -- Kris Wimberly!

for Brenna

here's the Runaway Brain Mickey i drew for Brenna today... she liked it. unfortunately, all i had was my phone to take the picture.

cafe sketches

after work on Friday i decided to go spend an hour doing some gesture drawing out in public. i went to Downtown Disney since they have a bunch of free live music playing and LOTS of people sitting and listening and bustling about. it was pretty busy too since it was Friday night.

i listened to this really good violinist who always draws a large crowd. i have a couple of his cds. his name is Drew Tretick.

halloweenie

after a while, you get tired of drawing these characters the same way. sometimes you gotta play with them (just to save your sanity). at work we were all talking about 80's and 90's cartoons that bombed, so it sparked inspiration to draw this quick sketch of Minnie Mouse dressed as this 80's-type rocker (a la Jem from the 80's cartoon) for Halloween. i tried to keep it a bit conservative (in case any big-wigs see it). maybe i'll clean it up later...

anyone remember this cartoon? definitely wasn't my cup o' tea.. haha! could you please pass the Thunder Cats??

only at Disney...

the fun doesn't stop! in commemoration of the new Tink movie, we had a coloring contest at work. we could only select one of the four Tinkerbell poses they had and we all used the same cheap-ass, dollar-store crayons.

for some reason, i didn't win.

your dose of Saturday morning cartoons:

here are a few shorts that i came across while digging trough youtube. i wanted to throw these up here because they are a few of my inspirations to be a good storyboard artist. i remember laughing at these till i cried as a kid (and they're still that funny)! there's nothing like executing a solid gag to make people laugh! enjoy...

gotta love the sound fx when Elmer jumps in the bed!

Tex Avery and Fred Quimby - a dynamic duo!

there's obviously tons more i need to add. maybe i'll post a few more another day, but atleast you can see what kinds of older, classic cartoons tend to shape my way of tooning. i can never get enough of directors like Tex Avery (and Chuck Jones which i'll probably post in the next batch) for those older classics. then there are the directors of newer classics that can't be over-looked like John Kricfaluci. anyway, hopefully you laughed a little bit.

thank you, come again!

Batman Parody

while i'm getting this ready to run off a couple prints for some people, i thought i might take the time to throw this up on here for those who couldn't make it to the gallery. people seemed to like this one quite a bit. it's done in prisma color pencils... (with no rulers sucka!)

a little snack

ok, so i haven't posted anything in a few days. as some of you know, i've been really busy working on something HUGE. hopefully it goes well, but it remains to be seen until after 8.8.08 (next Friday).

SO... to make it worth your while for stopping by, here's a little crowd pleaser that has made a couple public appearances. it's debut was at my Bro's wedding. i figured this would be a good time to put it up since him and his wife just celebrated their one year anniversary!

congrats guys!

gotta love it!

upon cleaning out my hard drive, i stumbled across this pretty amature piece i did some years back. now, i'll be the FIRST to admit it's not visually very appealing (weak posing, poor staging, awful inking, lame character designs, amature/self-taught photoshop skills, tangents, etc.)... HOWEVER, ya gotta love the social commentary! have you seen these things?!

super weekend

with all the buzz going on this weekend from the Batman movie, i thought i'd put up this piece i did of my rendition of Super Grover. as you can see, my version is a bit more updated than the original Super Grover that was on Sesame Street back in the 80s. this piece was at my gallery earlier this past March.

dusting off the ol' paint tools...

and by that i mean my Wacom tablet and stylus! see, i'm workin' on a children's book. i've been hired to do some illustrations for it, and there's one particular scene that i feel can best be captured by with a digital painting.

now normally if you'd ask, i'd say, "i can't paint to save my life!" however, ever since i've taken the amazing Painter class at CSUF (taught by the talented Cliff Cramp), i've found a way where i can be comfortable saying, "...yeah, i can paint." here i've implemented tons of technique i've gained under Cliff's instruction. though it's not a very elaborate painting, it was enough for today to serve as a short warm up to get back in some sort of goove or another. hopefully i'll get some good stuff goin' soon!
